## Menzioni Geografiche Aggiuntive (MGA): The Pure Expression of Terroir

### What are MGAs?

            
The **Menzioni Geografiche Aggiuntive (MGA aka Geographical additional mention)**, a concept similar to that of a *Cru*, represent the highest expression of territorial classification for **Barbaresco DOCG** and **Barolo DOCG** wines. These are individual viticultural areas, historically renowned and strictly delimited, which stand out for their unique soil and climate characteristics.

            
Altitude, sun exposure, air currents, and the complex geological matrix of the Langa soil create an unrepeatable microclimate in each MGA. This mosaic of variables ensures that the grapes grown here develop aromas, structures, and tannins that differ profoundly from one hill to another.

        

        
            
### Why we chose to vinify them

            
At **Montaribaldi**, we believe that the Nebbiolo grape is the most extraordinary and sensitive translator of its place of origin. We have chosen to isolate and vinify our most prestigious vineyards separately, such as [*Marcarini*](/en/wines/mga/barbaresco-docg-riserva-marcarini/), [*Pajorè*](/en/wines/mga/barbaresco-docg-pajore/), [*Rio Sordo*](/en/wines/mga/barbaresco-docg-rio-sordo/), [*Starderi*](/en/wines/mga/barbaresco-docg-starderi/), and [*Perno*](/en/wines/mga/barolo-docg-perno/), to enhance their authentic identity.

            
For us, producing MGAs means **respecting the uniqueness of every single vineyard**.
